Register / Login Modals

Project Overview

The Register and Login feature was designed to create a seamless entry process for new users, allowing them to quickly register with essential information or through third-party providers like Google or X (Twitter). Upon successful registration, users receive a verification email to confirm their email address. For returning users, the login process is streamlined, requiring only their username and password.

Problem Statement

Previously, users encountered friction during the registration and login process, leading to incomplete sign-ups and a drop in returning users. The need for a quick and intuitive flow was essential, especially for users preferring third-party sign-up options or those expecting secure, reliable email verification. Our goal was to simplify the experience, balancing ease of access with account security.

User Research & Insights

We conducted surveys and reviewed feedback on current registration processes, identifying key pain points such as long registration times and lack of third-party login options. New users expressed a preference for simple registration requirements and trusted sign-up methods (Google and X). For login, most users wanted a swift experience, valuing password-only login without needing to enter additional information.

Design Strategy & Goals

Our strategy focused on providing a quick and flexible registration process with minimal input fields and prominent options for Google and X sign-ups. For security, we introduced an email verification step and prioritized clarity in messaging around account creation and login. For returning users, our goal was to offer an effortless login experience with a simple username and password input.

User Testing & Iterations

Testing highlighted that some users initially overlooked the email verification step, so we refined the post-registration message to make this requirement more prominent. Feedback also suggested that users wanted quicker access to third-party sign-ups, so we adjusted the layout to make Google and X sign-in options more visible. Additional iterations focused on improving field validation to reduce registration errors.

Outcome & Impact

The redesigned Register and Login modals led to a 14% increase in completed registrations and reduced the bounce rate during sign-up. Users appreciated the flexibility of third-party sign-ups, and the streamlined login modal improved user retention. Positive feedback confirmed that the new design was intuitive and effective in guiding users through both registration and login processes.
