Blend App

Project Overview

This project focused on designing an e-commerce mobile app for athletic shoes from leading brands like Adidas and Nike. The goal was to create a smooth shopping experience tailored to both casual buyers and dedicated sneaker enthusiasts. The app was designed with an end-to-end user experience, including stages from user research and wireframing to UI design and prototyping. Key features emphasized intuitive product discovery, an optimized checkout process, and personalized recommendations, ensuring a consistent brand experience and top-tier performance across devices. The project also required secure payment integration and user-friendly navigation.

Problem Statement

Athletic shoe enthusiasts and casual shoppers alike expressed challenges in finding and purchasing shoes that meet their preferences. Issues included difficulty discovering products within specific categories, unclear checkout processes, and a lack of personalized product recommendations. The challenge was to design a mobile app that addressed these pain points, making it easier to browse, find, and purchase shoes on any mobile device.

User Research & Insights

To identify user preferences and expectations, we conducted surveys and interviews with a mix of casual and dedicated shoe shoppers. Insights revealed that users wanted a streamlined product search experience, an efficient checkout with multiple payment options, and recommendations for new releases or popular products. Enthusiasts were particularly interested in brand-specific filters, early notifications for new releases, and quick access to shoe specifications, which guided our design direction.

User Personas

We created personas such as “Mike,” a sneaker enthusiast who stays updated on new releases and values exclusive offers, and “Lisa,” a casual buyer who prefers a straightforward, no-fuss shopping experience. These personas guided our design decisions, ensuring that both experienced and occasional users could navigate the app effortlessly and find what they needed.

Design Strategy & Goals

Our design strategy focused on three main objectives: enhancing product discovery, creating a seamless checkout process, and delivering personalized recommendations. We aimed to build an intuitive app that balanced ease of use with in-depth product information, featuring brand-specific design elements to align with Nike and Adidas aesthetics. Prioritizing mobile responsiveness, we ensured that the experience remained consistent and visually appealing across various screen sizes.

UI Requirements

The design must align with the visual identity of the brands (Adidas, Nike) while maintaining a consistent app-wide aesthetic.

Use clean, minimalistic layouts to prioritize product visibility and create an intuitive user flow.

Ensure high-quality, detailed product images with zoom functionality to give users a clear view of the shoes.

Include prominent call-to-action buttons for key interactions (e.g., "Buy Now," "Add to Cart").

UX Requirements

Implement an easy-to-navigate product catalog with filtering options (e.g., brand, size, price, style).

Create a personalized experience by incorporating user preferences, purchase history, and recommendations based on browsing behavior.

Simplify the checkout process with minimal steps, offering multiple payment methods (credit card, PayPal, etc.).

Ensure seamless login and account management, including social login options (Google, Facebook).

Include a wish list or "favorite" feature for users to save products for future purchases.

UI/UX Design Solutions

The final design featured a visually appealing home screen that showcased popular and recommended products, quick filters for easy navigation, and dedicated sections for Adidas and Nike. The product pages included high-quality images, detailed descriptions, and size charts, while the checkout process was streamlined with multiple payment options, including secure payment gateways and buy-now-pay-later options. Personalized recommendations were displayed throughout the app, tailored to the user’s browsing history and favorite brands.

User Testing & Iterations

During testing, users appreciated the app’s brand-specific filters and clear product categorization, although some found the payment options overwhelming. To address this, we optimized the checkout UI by grouping payment options into categories with expandable views. We also iterated on the product recommendation algorithm to ensure suggestions were relevant. Additional feedback led to tweaks in the navigation flow, making it easier to return to previous pages.

Outcome & Impact

The app launch resulted in a significant boost in user engagement, with a 30% increase in time spent on product pages and a 20% reduction in cart abandonment. Users praised the personalized recommendations and efficient checkout process, and sneaker enthusiasts valued the app’s quick access to new releases and exclusive offers. The platform gained positive feedback for its seamless navigation and brand consistency, enhancing the shopping experience for both casual and dedicated buyers.
